Week 1 term 4 2022
Kia ora koutou katoa
Kia ora koutou katoa,
Here we are in the last term of school for 2022. The last term is very important for our year 8 students as they come to the end of their primary school years and are looking towards moving on to secondary school. It is essential that our year 8 students continue to make the most of their learning experiences in their last term at Maeroa.
There will be a year 8 student dance (social) this year. This will be an invitation-only for students who consistently demonstrate our school values and expectations throughout the year. This is not a school ball, so there is no need for families to pay for hair/make-up appointments, hire limousines or suits etc. More details will be out later in the term, including ticket prices.
I hope all year 8 students are enrolled in a secondary school for 2023. Students need to know where they are going and are enrolled.
We had an exciting start to term 4 with a visit at 9 am on Monday from Ruud Kleinpaste, the "Bug Man". Ruud spoke to the whole school at our assembly, worked with our various enviro groups throughout the day, and then worked with our teachers at our staff meeting after school. Ruud is passionate about nature, natural resources, ecology and environment-friendly living and can talk for "daayyss" about his hobbies, particularly insects and spiders. He relates facts about insects and "creepy crawlies" in an entertaining and informative manner. Our students loved his visit.

Maeroa's Got Talent
We had a fabulous Talent Quest at the end of the last term that showcased talent from across our school. It was a lot of fun, and the crowd loved the variety of the acts. I admire not only the talent of all the performers but the courage to perform in front of their peers, they were so entertaining.

Fun Run - Colour Run
We have moved the date of the Colour run Fun Run forward one day to the afternoon of Thursday, 10th November, due to a clash with a few other events outside our control. This means that more students can participate. Students can sign up for fundraising by following the steps below to create an online profile to be eligible for many prizes.
- Visit this website - https://schoolfundraising.co.nz/
- Select the Student Sign Up link and create a profile
- Share your unique code with friends and family via social media, text and email
- Earn and order awesome prizes online
Money raised will go towards some end-of-year fun for this year's students and establish a collection of camping gear for not only next year but years to come, a legacy. Further details to follow; however, first, lets' get profiles up.
Thanks for your support

Literature Quiz 2022
Lit Quiz 2022
Maeroa had two teams attend the Lit Quiz at Southwell school on Wednesday, 19th October. The teams had a stellar day placing 4th and 10th out of over 40 teams across the Waikato.
The categories this year were:
- Pop Culture
- Sheep
- Supernatural
- Tattoos
- Transformations
- Who Is This?
- Witches
- Who Said?
- XL Size
- Zoos
Congratulations to Sienna for winning a spot prize after correctly answering one of the bonus questions. Congratulations to Maeroa Team 2 for scoring top marks in the ‘Supernatural’ round. Congratulations to Maeroa Team 1 for scoring top marks in the ‘Tattoos’, ‘Who Is This?’, and ‘XL Size’ rounds.
We are impressed with their dedication and attendance at all after-school training sessions. They borrowed, read, discussed and challenged themselves in book knowledge over the last two terms and should be extremely proud of how well they worked together on the day. We are looking forward to next year's competition in May!

Literature Quiz 2022
Poem by Malaya
Fish in the pond
Scales as deep as stubborn moss
Glides over the surface, vagabond
For just one peek at sea gloss
Fish in the pond
Lively, lavender eyes—always looking, searching, a waterfall
Golden tail waving to a blue plafond
Wandering endlessly in familiar walls
Fish in the pond
Swims with every other fish
Languidly playing towmond
Eternal gibberish
Until—
Fish in the pond—jumps!

Gully Working Bee - Saturday 29th October
Saturday Gully Working Bee
The next gully working bee is Saturday, 29 October 9 am-12 pm. There are plenty of tasks that all ages and fitness levels can do. Please consider bringing yourself and as many people as possible to help in our gully. We provide a delicious morning tea, students receive at least six sign-offs on their Enviro Koru Card, and it's a great chance to meet new people. We aim to clear a new section, weed around smaller trees, and plant trees and pot seedlings in the Shade House. If you can assist, please email jyeoman@maeroa.school.
Many thanks, Julie Yeoman
